Final drape dress

I was please with my final dress but it didnt turn out exactly how i wanted it. I think after having 10 days out of uni, i came back and panicked and tried to make it as quick as possible worrying that i wouldnt get it done in time. This is actually just a toile but people seemed to like the fabric i used.

Kaledo

For our draping project we had to chose from 5 dresses as our starting inspiration. This is the dress i chose and because i have recently been introduced to kaledo i though i'd practice by doing an illustration of my chosen dress. Using kaledo is soo much easier than illustrator and for future projects i will definitly use it to create my illustrations.

This is my final jacket, i was really pleased with the outcome because i was a little worried about how the collar would turn out. I forgot my own buttons so had to use some from the uni which were pretty tiny but other than that i was happy.

Development of my jacket

It was good to actually start making somthing, there were so many pieces to the jacket i was possetive i was going to lose a few but i didnt and it all went well. Struggled with the collar a bit though.

Today was our presentation day, we all met up as a group and practice just a few more times before actually presenting because i think we were all a bit nervouse. I dont really mind talking in front of people and i found it a lot better when we were stood up there as a group. People seemed interested in our idea, and im think it went pretty well. The link to our group blog is below if you want to have a look.

Getting back into pattern cutting after not doing it for soo long was definitely a struggle on the first day, but as we got more into it i started to pick up and remember things quickly again. Just needed a little re-fresh.

PPRD - Group project.

For our first PPRD project we got into groups of 6 and each group got given an object from the modip museum. Our object was a hat made from fine cardboard which was in the honeycombe form, it pretty hard to explain so there are some images to show you. When we were first given the object we had no idea what it was because before it is expanded into a hat its doesnt really look like anything. We decided to keep a group blog to upload all our research to instead of a sketchbook because that way everyone can access it when they want, we also decided to stick to accessories with a theme of tribal and incorperating origami into it as well.
At the moment im not entirely sure about this project and how well its going to go working in a group but i hope it does, because it will be interesting to see how other people work.

Draping

Soo over the summer we got set a projct to research and create a mood board on draping, i found it really interesting because i have never done any form of draping before and it got me back into uni mode before actually coming back to uni. These are the pictures i found that stood out to me the most.

Vintage at Goodwood Festival

So over the summer i was lucky enough to go the the first Vintage at Goodwood festival. Vintage and second hand shopping has been around for years and has become more and more popular and 'fahionable' as the years have gone on. Vintage at Goodwood is a truly unique annual event which celebrates 5 decades of British Cool. It brings together and celebrates the music, fashion, film, art, dance and design from the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, that has made Britain the world’s creative and cultural hot bed. Vintage explores this rich cultural history and the extraordinary influence that it has had on the modern world.
Below are some of my own photos and a couple of videos to show you exactly what went on.

Back to uni, back to reality.

After having roughly four months off uni and working full time in a call centre, i can say its nice to be back. I am happy with my overall 2:2 mark for my first year, but looking back over my work i cant say im pleased with the final outcomes of my projects. This year im going to aim to keep on track with my work, turn up to lessons on time and generaly just make a lot more effort. Now i know that i want to go more into the construction side of fashionm, and i also feel like im more comfortable in Bournemouth and at uni, its going to be a much better year.

Easter is over and im sad because i had too much fun and now back to reality. The first week i went skiing with my family and went and saw my sister, who is doing a season, for the first time in months which made my year!! The second week i ate way too much chocolate and saw as many friends as i could. I had our first day back today. I was reeally tired and didnt feel so great but even though it may not have seemed like it i really enjoyed the lesson. we discussed about different fabrics which i dont really no a lot about and its an area i need to be stronger in so i found it helped a lot. I wasnt so keen on the exercise we did were we had to ask random people about the clothes they were wearing because many people weren't around the the canteen was shut, but other than that it was fun.

9.30 tomorrow is my hand in for buying and Merchandising so i decided to hand it in today just so i dont miss it. Writing the essay ended up being a lot easier than i though, i found it difficult at times to write but the fact that we got given our assignment quite early it gave me plenty of time to be able to write it to the standard i want it. i think the fact that i have worked in retail for about three years also helped me with writing the assignment. So yeah overall i was pretty please with my final copy and hopefully John will be too.

Today was my toile review which i was actually really nervous about. i was really pleased with my toile but was worried about the teachers comments just incase they wanted me to change it completely. My feedback was really positive and gave me the confidence boost i think i needed. i originally took one fabric sample into the review but karen remembered from my design review all the other samples i had. The one i took in with me was a black and white polka dot fabric which i thought would be good for my 50's theme, they preferred the other fabric samples i had which i loved because the colours are more vibrant and would make the dress more with todays trends but with a 50's style which i wanted to achieve.

Today was our hand in for Lectra which i wasnt as worried about as i have been for other hand ins because i found it easier to keep on top of my folder because most of what went in it we did in lessons. Pattern cutting is one of my favorite subjects so i found it really interesting learning more about it and learning the basic skills i need to use Lectra. Even though i really enjoyed it I did seem to struggle with some of the lessons, im quite slow when it come to computers especially when its all completely different and brand new. I would like to have more lessons on Lectra so when i come to use it on my own for future projects i can feel more comfortable and confident. Making the jersey t-shirt was a lot simpler and easier than i thought and i like being introduced to the different methods of hemming such as the twin needle.

Monday, 22 February 2010

Finally i finished all my 100 designs and presented my final collection today. I like the fact we were in small groups of four and we got to discuss each others work between us, because the other girls feedback helped me as well as the teachers. We decided on 2 out of the 6, which was a dress and an outfit made of a shirt and a skirt. But the outfit which pat and karen preferred i didnt and i had a better idea in my head of fabrics i wanted to use for the dress and just had a better image in my head. Also i didnt really want to make another shirt. Hopefully i made the right decision and wont regret it when it comes to making it.

Tuesday, 16 February 2010

Today was when everyone did there presentation on their chosen fashion capital in their groups. I really dont like presenting things in front of a class so i was pretty nervous. Me and clare had decided to do it on London as no one else was and its one of the biggest fashion capital. considering i live about 30 minutes from london and have done my whole life i still seemed to learn a lot more than i thought i would especially about hotspots and previous fashion weeks. Me and clare were the last group to do our presentation which i really didnt mind about because it meant there were less people around. Even though i thought ours was going to be really boring because everyone already knows a lot about London people seemed interested so i was happy with the end result.

Monday, 25 January 2010

At the beginning of this term because we have finished our illustration lessons we moved onto Buying and Merchandising, i was looking forward to having lessons outside of the studios and learning about a different side of the industry. I've never really thought about the B&M side of the industry but was really impressed by our teacher John Maynard and was really impressed by his experience and knowledge that he had from working and being very successful within buying and merchandising. I didnt think i was going to be interested in the subject but he changed my mind.

christmas is over

Soo because of the amazing amount of snow i couldnt make it back for out first day of term, i dont think many people made it back in so i wasnt the only one. Over christmas i had an amazing time seeing friends and family and it didnt seem long enough. I worked on my black and white project and my melting pot project as the deadline is tomorrow. I also worked on my manifesto project researching 1950's fashion to prepare me for when i came back. Its nice to be back in Bournemouth and it will be good to get myself back into my uni routine.
